The ProjectBaristaBot is the Culmination of a two month project that integrated a substantial mechanical, electrical, and software component into a functional system.
This project aims to fully automate the coffee brewing process while combining artisan brewing practices with an assembly-line-style aesthetic. The goal is to engage viewers to appreciate the meticulous steps involved in preparing and brewing pour-over coffee in a way that no black-box coffee maker can. |
The Brew
A run of the machine's functionality, featuring cup dispensing, bean grinding, and pour-over brewing.
Iterative Design
Iterative design results in creative problem solving, increasingly effective solutions, and optimal finished products. Our team began by jumping into each new problem and learning as much as possible about subjects necessary to complete a given task. We then created prototypes, iterating until they were fully functional. Finally, we underwent a full redesign to tie in our user-oriented goals. Click below to see each subsystem in its final form!
Agile Project Management
In order to manage a project of this scale, our team used the Scrum framework. Development occurred in two-week sprints with design reviews and feedback sessions at the conclusion of each sprint. Our team also held strongly to daily standup meetings in order to communicate our individual progress effectively and reevaluate the state of the project continuously.
