How we spent our money
Working with $250
One of the main constraints we had to work under was the $250 budget. We spent under $100 of the budget on prototyping to leave the majority of it for the final product. The most expensive, but most important, components that we bought were the LED matrices. Each was slightly under $30 but this made the display much simpler and allowed for us to focus on audio processing. Prior to purchasing the matrices we soldered one protoboard with an 8x8 LED display. This took a lot of time and we did not learn much from it, so we decided it would be worth it to spend the money on the matrices.
A breakdown of the budget can be seen below. We went a little bit over budget, but we all agreed to split the cost of the extra parts that were purchased.
