Principles of Engineering Fall 2015  - Olin College

Meet the Team

Gabrielle Ewall
Jessica Diller
Michael Resnick
Anna Knapp
We are four students at Olin College of Engineering taking a class called Principles of Engineering. After a few weeks of lab-based learning, we spent the rest of the semester working on a final project in an area of our choice that integrated mechanical, hardware, and software components. We immediately found each other given our love of music and chose to make an analog and digital synthesizer. We love synths! And we especially love the synth we made this semester.

Learning Goals

Gabrielle: Digital communication, especially as it relates to digital / analog conversion and communication.
Jessica: System level electrical engineering. I was most interested in understanding the specific hardware and software components more on a black box level, but the way they fit and work together to produce output sound based on simple inputs.
Michael: Dynamics of mechanical vibrations and gaining experience simulating and implementing real systems. I also was interested in learning about mechanically interface for electrical components.
Anna: Analog musical circuits and get hands on experience building, debugging, and analyzing them.
