Necessary Parts and Tools
- 9 Inch flower pot
- 4 Servos
- 4 3D Printed servo horns
- 4 Lasercut servo mounts
- 4 Paper clips
- 4 Scrap wood blocks
- Fishing Line
- Origami Lasercut Leaves
- 3D Printed Stems and stem mounts
- Lasercut wood mounting layer
- Lasercut wood or plastic chassis base
- Wheels with attached DC motor
- Caster wheel
- Green Cardstock
- Lasercutter
- 3D printer and PLA filament
- Laminator (or packing tape)
- Hot glue, super glue, and wood glue
Leaf Assembly Instructions
- Lasercut 8 leaves out of green cardstock from the template
- Pull out lasercut holes (V shaped)
- Laminate all lasercut sheets (or coat in packing tape)
- Cut out all leaves leaving no paper boarder around leaves
- Fold leaves in half lengthwise, then accordion style along alternating strips
- Poke holes in the center of each strip with a push pin
- String fishing line through holes weaving in and out of either side of the leaf, leaving at least 12 inches at the base for attachment to the pulley
- Tie a knot in the end of the fishing line at the top of the leaf and tape down the excess for security
Chassis Assembly Instructions
- Saw off the base of the 9 inch flower pot
- Lasercut the wood mounting layer, chassis base, and servo mounts
- 3D print 4 servo horns
- Superglue the custom servo horns to the existing servo horns
- Attach the chassis base with hot glue
- Screw wheels into wheel holes in chassis base, thread wire through holes in front of wheel holes
- Screw caster wheel into front holes
- Wood glue the lasercut servo mounts to the wood blocks on the thinner side
- Wood glue the wood blocks to the wood mounting layer with the servo mounts facing down
Stem and Pulley Assembly Instructions
- 3D Print 8 stems (2 parts each), and 8 stem mounts
- Cut each paper clip in half and straighten, then thread through holes in top and bottom stems to attach parts
- Cut 8 inches of fishing line for each stem and attach to hole in top stem
- Thread fishing line from top stem and fishing line from leaves through the stem
- Glue each leaf to each stem, aligning with channel
- Press fit each stem into stem mount, then each stem mount into hole in the lasercut top
- Attach all servos to bottom of lasercut top, evenly spaced in a circle with servos facing down
- Tie wire between the two top holes and between the two bottom holes of the servo horn
- Tie the leaf fishing line to the top wire on the servo mounts, attaching 2 leaves to each servo. Make sure each fishing line is taut
- Tie the fishing lines attached to the stem tops to the bottom wire on the corresponding servo mounts. Make sure each fishing line is taut
- Press fit lasercut top onto pot
