Hey.
You know those scenes in spy movies where some character breaks into some important home / building / warehouse and slides a small device across the floor to reveal network of laser beam tripwires, then nimbly navigates the maze using a wide variety of acrobatic skills? Well, we’re a group of sophomores at Olin College of Engineering, and we want to make that.
We’re currently building a laser maze for our mechatronics class, Principles of Engineering. The project will integrate electrical, mechanical, and software systems, and design and construction will be taking place over the next 7 weeks.
This week, we began with a basic integrated laser-sensor-servo prototype and some concept sketches. We also did some materiality testing with mirrors, retroreflective tape, and laser-enhancing goggles.
In the next couple of weeks, we’ll be focusing on our user experience design… stay tuned.
